“Tunnels”

Day 94 of 366 Day Project

“Magic is everywhere, explore & be amazed everyday!”

Todays photo was taken whilst out on our Sunday morning bike ride.

A tunnel is an underground or underwater passageway, dug through the surrounding soil/earth/rock and enclosed except for entrance and exit, commonly at each end. A pipeline is not a tunnel, though some recent tunnels have used immersed tube construction techniques rather than traditional tunnel boring methods.

“If you do not see light at the end of the tunnel, consider it an opportunity to create an opening yourself, wherever you want.” ~ Ashok Kallarakkal

There is something spooky and at the same time, intriguing about passing through tunnels.  I find myself having to refrain from making weird loud noises when in tunnels, just to hear the echo bounce back at me. Sometimes I just let out a squeal and enjoy the sounds of my voice echoing.

Here on the Sunshine Coast we have lots of pathway tunnels for bike riders keeping them safe from busy roads with protected alternative routes underneath the roads. I personally prefer tunnels where you can see the end ‘light at the end of the tunnel’. Personally, I’m not a fan of the highway tunnels that go for kilometers underground or underwater…I feel uneasy and a little claustrophobic when in them.

Australia Roads has put out a guide to road tunnels for those interested, you can check it out here.
