Day 16 of 366 Day Project

“Magic is everywhere, explore & be amazed everyday!”

Passion Fruit Flower

It’s a gloomy, windy, rainy day here on the ‘Sunshine Coast’ today. I didn’t want to venture out in the weather, so went exploring in the backyard instead. Just outside our patio area we have a couple of passion fruit vines that have started to flower. I’ve always liked their flowers so picked a few to have a closer look through the macro lens. They’re a single, fragrant flower, 2 to 3 inches wide, and are born at each node on the new growth.

The flower, clasped by 3 large, green, lifelike bracts, consists of 5 greenish-white sepals, 5 white petals and a fringelike corona of straight, white-tipped squiggly rays and a rich purple base.

It also has 5 stamens with large anthers, the ovary and triple-branched style forming a prominent central structure.  It is really fascinating when you get up close to it.

So next time a flower catches your eye, stop for a minute, have a closer look. I guarantee you’ll be amazed. All too often we rush around in the business of our lives and don’t take time to stop and appreciate the finer things around us.

“When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not” ~ Georgia O’Keeffe

“Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature.” Gerard De Nerval
