Day 15 of 366 Day Project – “Magic is everywhere, explore & be amazed everyday!”

On my way to see a client this morning, I spotted a rock exterior feature wall on a nearby building, the Bellavista Tavern actually, West Caloundra.

I stopped to have a closer look at the texture and the masonry (stone work) that had gone into the construction. Each rock had been strategically placed allowing minimal space between each one. Each stone was positioned snuggly next to the neighbouring rock(s). I know my dad would have really appreciated the work that has gone into this wall.  Dad was a bricklayer and as a youngster I used to work alongside him raking and stacking bricks for him.  It was hard enough getting a brick wall to look neat using uniform shapes let alone rocks shaped irregular by nature.

Who would have thought, if it weren’t for this 366 Day Project I would not be exploring and wondering how it came to be.

QUOTES

My art is an attempt to reach beyond the surface appearance. I want to see growth in wood, time in stone, nature in a city, and I do not mean its parks but a deeper understanding that a city is nature too-the ground upon which it is built, the stone with which it is made.” ~ Andy Goldsworthy

“Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.” ~ Michelangelo
