“Reach For The Sky”
Day 99 of 366 Day Project
“Magic is everywhere, explore & be amazed everyday!”
It was a typical chilly Canberra autumn morning when I arrived in Canberra today. In a quiet corner near the entrance I was greeted by this breathtaking, huge bronze figure of a crouched woman with her arm thrust triumphantly skywards.
I love the way the hand reaches up into the sky. ‘We should aim high in life. But remain content with what we have and what we are.’
The bronze beauty, ‘Perception and Reality’ is Australia’s largest cast figurative bronze sculpture reaching 7.5 metres and weighing 3.8 tons. Australian sculptor Andrew Rogers created her. Andrew exhibits internationally and his critically acclaimed sculptures and photographs are in numerous private and prominent public collections across the world.
To have a sculpture of this scale at Canberra Airport, the gateway our national capital, reaffirms the city’s commitment to the arts.
If you’re ever visiting Canberra be sure to check it out.
