“Mountain Bike Riding”

Day 52 of 366 Day Project

“Magic is everywhere, explore & be amazed everyday!”

Today’s photo is my Greg, aka my hubby, on a trail that we ventured out to explore today. This trail meandered through the Mooloolah River National Park. This park a short ride from home…a little hidden gem so close to home, we’ll be back.

“Life is like riding a bicycle. You don’t fall off unless you plan to stop pedaling.” ~ Claude Pepper

Part of what makes riding a bike so special is the ability to explore. You can ride the same roads and trails every day, or you can add a little variety. Familiarity becomes monotonous and the urge to explore is present.

Exploring and going on adventures is one of my favorite things about riding. It really is cool to experience a new area for the first time and not know what is coming around the next corner.

Secondly, I don’t have anything against road riding. I’ve tried it. I tried to love it. I tried to like it. But ultimately it’s just not for me. I know that millions of people love road riding (and that it’s more popular than mountain biking), but… I also think millions of road riders haven’t tried mountain biking yet. 🙂   So without further ado, here are a few Reasons Why I prefer Mountain Biking better than road biking.

*   *   *

  1. There’s no cars, no noisy steel whizzing by you at 80kms, 18 inches away.
  2. Mountain Biking is Better for your Health: It is a lot better for your lungs particularly not having to share your ride with cars emitting fumes.
  3. Trees: There’s nothing quite like the feeling of flying down a trail through nature with trees whooshing by and hitting a tree hurts a lot less than getting hit by a car.
  4. Quiet and Solitude: Mountain bike trails often take you to remote, peaceful places, where you can become one with nature, meditate, and enjoy the great outdoors.
  5. Mountain Biking Gives you a Better Workout: Riding on the road improves your cardiovascular fitness for spinning at high cadence for a long time.  Mountain biking requires much more dynamic fitness – from quick bursts to sustained cardio output – and incorporates a lot more muscle groups.

So what is it for you…mountain bike or road bike?
