Day 19 of 366 Day Project

“Magic is everywhere, explore & be amazed everyday!”

“Heading out to get diner…I’ll be back soon.”

On my evening walk along the beach I spot this guy walking backwards awkwardly towards the ocean. Hmmm, strange…I inquisitively ask myself, “So what’s up with this guy? Is he alright?” It wasn’t until I got closer I noticed he was decked out in his spearfishing attire, hence walking backwards so he wouldn’t fall over his big flippers. Those that have tried will know what I’m talking about.

Did you know that shore diving is the most common form of spearfishing and involves entering and exiting the sea from beaches or headlands and hunting around ocean structures, usually reef, but also rocks, kelp or sand. Usually shore divers hunt at depths of 5–25 meters (16–82 ft), depending on location.

His equipment consisted of a spear gun, fins/slippers, buoy or float, float line, glove, snorkel, diving mask and a diver down flag (also called a ‘dive flag’) used for safety and to indicate that there is a diver below.

He was pretty chuffed to feature in today’s photo for my 366 Day Project.

“I wonder what he’ll be having for diner tonight…fish or takeout?”
