Day 55 – 366 Day Project

“Sunset”   Day 55 of 366 Day Project “Magic is everywhere, explore & be amazed everyday!”   At the end of everyday if we stop and look we get the opportunity to take in one of the most beautiful sights that is too often overlooked. Sunset is the time in the evening when the sun disappears or daylight fades. We all know just how romantic, inspiring and utterly beautiful they can be, but most of us only make time for sunsets when we’re on holidays, as if that calming, beautiful moment can only occur when we’re in an exotic place, free from everyday obligations. But — newsflash — the sun sets every single day, no matter where you are. And with the days getting longer and the weather getting warmer, the sunset is becoming more and more accessible, and an easy, free way to infuse some wonder and awe into your regular routine. “When I admire the wonder of a sunset, or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in worship of the Creator.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi Did you know that by witnessing the beauty and awe of the sunset, you can slow down your perception of time? According to researchers, participants who felt awe — defined as “the emotion that arises when one encounters something so strikingly vast that it provokes a need to update one’s mental schemas” — felt like they had more time available and were less impatient. “Experiences of awe bring people into the present moment,” researchers wrote in their findings, “which underlies awe’s capacity to adjust time perception, influence decisions, and make life...

“Best Friends”   Day 54 of 366 Day Project “Magic is everywhere, explore & be amazed everyday!”   Today’s photo is Kodie, my fur friend…surprise, surprise I hear you say…oh no AGAIN!!! Anyways today Kodie made a new friend, a golden Labrador who shared her frisbee and romped around the beach with her. Never have I witnessed two dogs play so well together…like little excited kids running in and out of the water, teasing each other with the frisbee, playing chasings and hide and seek in the long grass, pouncing around each other and collapsing with exhaustion in the water for a few minutes before doing it all again. It was amazing and so beautiful to witness. The owner of the golden Labrador was surprised too, as she’d never seen two dogs play so well together before either…a perfect match. We exchanged details and no doubt will get these two fur babies together for more play dates. “No friendship is an accident.”  ~ O.Henry    ...

“Hairdressers”   Day 53 of 366 Day Project “Magic is everywhere, explore & be amazed everyday!”   So I got my hair cut n coloured today! Have I told you I love my hairdresser lately?  No.  Well I do!  Meet Kylie, she’s an amazing friend and talented hairdresser, makeup and beautician.  She has a way of working her magic on my unruly and untamed curly head of hair.   “A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.” ~ Coco Chanel Awe come on peeps, surely I’m not the one one around here that loves their hairdresser?   Let’s be realistic, we all love our hairdressers, you know the ones that really ‘gets you’. The one that works their magic in the colour, cut, and style that you just love… I think the most important thing a woman can have – next to talent, of course – is her hairdresser.” ~ Joan Crawford Gorgeous hair is the best revenge ~ Ivana Trump Sitting in the chair, got me wondering and thinking about how special and amazing hairdressers are. Sometimes we take their skills for granted; really there is an art to their trade. It’s not until your hairdresser leaves town or retires that makes one realise how awesome they were… Ever had to scout around for a new hairdresser…just to be disappointed with the result that hits you in the face every time you look in the mirror? “The right hairstyle can make a plain woman beautiful and a beautiful woman unforgettable.” -Sophia Loren So if you love your hairdresser, give them a shout out and tell us why below…they deserve...

“Mountain Bike Riding”   Day 52 of 366 Day Project “Magic is everywhere, explore & be amazed everyday!”   Today’s photo is my Greg, aka my hubby, on a trail that we ventured out to explore today. This trail meandered through the Mooloolah River National Park. This park a short ride from home…a little hidden gem so close to home, we’ll be back. “Life is like riding a bicycle. You don’t fall off unless you plan to stop pedaling.” ~ Claude Pepper Part of what makes riding a bike so special is the ability to explore. You can ride the same roads and trails every day, or you can add a little variety. Familiarity becomes monotonous and the urge to explore is present. Exploring and going on adventures is one of my favorite things about riding. It really is cool to experience a new area for the first time and not know what is coming around the next corner. Secondly, I don’t have anything against road riding. I’ve tried it. I tried to love it. I tried to like it. But ultimately it’s just not for me. I know that millions of people love road riding (and that it’s more popular than mountain biking), but… I also think millions of road riders haven’t tried mountain biking yet. 🙂   So without further ado, here are a few Reasons Why I prefer Mountain Biking better than road biking. *   *   * There’s no cars, no noisy steel whizzing by you at 80kms, 18 inches away. Mountain Biking is Better for your Health: It is a lot better for your lungs...

“Swan”   Day 51 of 366 Day Project “Magic is everywhere, explore & be amazed everyday!”   When you think of a swan you might imagine a graceful bird with a long, curved neck gently gliding across still water. Or perhaps Hans Christian Andersen’s story The Ugly Duckling comes to mind? Black Swans are amazing birds, they form isolated pairs or small colonies in shallow wetlands. They pair for life, with both adults raising one brood per season. Eggs are laid in an untidy nest made of reeds and grasses. The nest is placed either on a small island or floated in deeper water. The chicks (cygnets) are covered in grey down and are able to swim and feed themselves as soon as they hatch.  Swans are beautiful birds, they are the largest members of the duck and goose family. I bet you didn’t know that; A swan will mate for life. Black swans are native to Australia. A male swan is called a cob, and a female swan is called a pen. The black necked swan lives in South America. Swans begin breeding between the ages of 3-4. Swan eggs take between 35 and 42 days to hatch. Swans can fly as fast as 60 miles per hour! A baby swan is called a cygnet. Swans are highly intelligent and remember who has been kind to them, or not. A group of wild swans is known as a herd, however a group in captivity are called a fleet. There are six different species of swans. The swan has over 25000 feathers in its body. Fascinating birds aren’t...
